I have noticed this sometimes i get errors like "server returned an invalid or unrecognized response"

This site has always been very fast for me -- and I run a very slow dial up and computer!!! -- could it be net conditions?

Yes, I've noticed that it can be slow sometimes during peak hours of the day.

Our hosting company Verio/digitalNation claims that they are aware of the problem, but that it's out of their control. They are waiting for some equipment to be delivered to them in order to do a major upgrade.

Short update: CPU use on our server is higher than I thought, so I'm currently looking into different solutions to this problem and I'll keep you informed.

As for the problem with Verio/dN it looks like it has been solved.
