name server

howdy howdy yall. Im new to this forum, i hope im not saying anything thats been said a million times.

I recently(yesterday) registered a .net domain from Godaddy. I chose them because i have heard they where a good large company and they had some of the cheapest prices i had found. I had signed up for a free brinkster account a while back and believed they were capable of storing somewhat large movie files. In fact i was wrong, with a max file size of 1m.

I also new nothing of this nameserver deal. I believed i could use any free host service with my domain name, until i realised that i needed a host that provided a name server, or if i had purchased the url forwarding from godaddy. Im too cheap to pay for the real hosting and was wondering if there where any hosts out there that offered free name server thing. Im not exactly sure what i need to do so if someone would clarify.... A well established or well working host would be nice, i only need a few megs of space for my general html and pics. It would be nice if it included capabillities of uploading .zip, .avi, mpeg and exe with unlimited file size, or if you know of a service that has that capablity. I will not be puting warez or pirated movies, only my own movies i made at home. Banners inserted on the page is unwanted, but an occasional popup would do no harm. Im just looking for some good service, hopefully one that includes a web-based file upload/manager. There are so many out there and most just come and go, so i was looking for something that i could stick with for a while and had what i needed. Extra features are always nice.

Here is some friendly advice. Do not purchase a domain name until you are fully certain that they offer everything you want in their price. In my case, i would have wanted domain forwarding wich is not offered in their standard price, its an extra 9.95 (more than the cost of the name itself!). Know what name server means and make sure you have one if your planning on actually doing something with your site.

If anyone has any ideas i would be really greatful if you can share them with me. Peace out.

1. Zoneedit provides url forwarding services.
2. Netfirms.com is an okay host that has nameservers for your use.
