Just downloaded some RAM

Had 8GB of RAM, but since RAM's so dirt cheap at the moment, I went and bought 8GB more
Now have 16G. What now? Will my internets be faster?

Seriously though, are there any added benefits of having more RAM?
I doubt the system ever used up 8GB before the upgrade

Create a ram disk and shove a game on it (or page file) and enjoy the good times! :wink2:

Just downloaded some RAM? I wanna download RAM! So much easier that taking apart my pc and adding it. Where do I download at? lol, jk

With that much ram you could probably turn the swap off entirely without any ill effects. It might actually go a lot faster that way, by default a lot of operating systems will still attempt to swap even with tons of free ram available.

See how many pornos you can watch AT THE SAME TIME

Unfortunately, only one (in focus) at a time. I have but one set of eyes.
Besides, simultaneously running 8 porn vids does not equate to 8x pleasure effect. :(

On the other hand, 8 ladies at the same time, ahh....... exponential!

Disabling virtual memory and creating a ram disk sounds great. I was hoping extra RAM could do more for my system other than seeing the number 12GB RAM in system info.

On a side note, it's kind of sad that my SSD is only 5 times greater in capacity. And no lifetime warranty either.
In the past, the ratio of RAM to HDD has always been like, I've only 1GB of RAM but 720GB of disk space!

Is this a win thing? I think at that point OS = Operating Stupid.

I like Ben's idea haha. If you don't got the processor speed to run it, just store it in RAM and call your computer a pervert.

Windows is by far a more severe offender of it, frequently putting most of itself into swap even with tons of free RAM available on the off chance that a program actually does use a lot.

Disabling swap in the old days with cramped RAM would usually make the system unstable, as it would very easily consume all available ram and crash as a result. But current system builds this isn't anywhere near as commonplace an issue as the rate of ram growth has far exceeded the rate of software growth. We'll be seeing terabyte RAM in workstation systems by the end of the decade at this rate.

By default both Windows and Linux will start swapping when around 50% of their RAM is used, even though they really don't have to.

In Linux you can tune this by tweaking the swappiness parameter, but I don't know it is adjustable in Windows.

If your RAM isn't that fast and your system doesn't take full advantage of that, the amount of gigs you have is irrelevant. I actually had 8GB, but I sent my PC for repairs, the company went into liquidation and ended up keeping 6GB of my RAM. I only have 2, my system hasn't been affected. You can change your swap size/turn it off in Windows.

I tried, I can't do anything, the company doesn't exist. Everything was liquidated, there is no one to yell at anymore. I can only contact my CC company, which want original receipts (from years and years ago) stating the original price because they apparently have NO records. The PC is ---- anyway, god knows how many times its been "fixed" with broken parts.
