i think they will still take back the domain when they see the domain start to have traffics.
since they able to spend money and pull traffics to their website, they will be also willing to spend time and wait.

Actually that is not true i know a place where u can get domains quiet cheap like $3 to $4 dollars using a coupon if you are still interested let me know. this works on renewals aswell.
