ICQ Question

Dammit, I've had ICQ forever and I'm still trying to figure this out... How in the hell do you get rid of those damn ICQ popups when you load it? The one that says closing in 59 seconds? I hate those... Any help appreciated.

Ok - I am not running the newest version of ICQ -- but it is under ICQ -- Preferences & Security -- Preferences -- Contact List tab -- right hand side is a check box for don't show announcements

On the newest version, I would assume that it is roughly in the same place -- hope it helps :)

Here are the instructions for the newest version

Go to icq hit prefrences, then in the left go to miscelanious then uncheck show announcements

remember when the icq install file was only 500k and could fit on a diskette? now it has all this crap that's larger than a 4 min mp3

I'm still indifferent to the new features, larger file size, etc.. because I haven't used the latest ICQ version enough to decide... hehe... Looks like it may take a while to use all the features though.. it's hard to believe that one user could actually find a use for all this stuff though.

I recently upgraded from what must have been ICQ1969 or something, and I don't like how long the bleepin' thing takes to power up. Seem to take much longer than it did before, and use more resources.

It seems that the newer versions of ICQ dont really add anything except fancy features that no ones uses...does anyone actually use that pager thing :)

Although, one thing I liked about 2 releases ago is the better IM interface where you can see the previous sends...

I liked ICQ at first, but it kept getting bigger and bigger and taking longer to load. And every so often they force you to upgrade... I held out as long as I could and then gave it up. I now use MSN Messenger... Works a lot better. :)

I personally think AIM is the best...but I have so many friends at ICQ, that its hard to give it up :)

I installed ICQ once, a couple of years ago when it first popped up. It took exactly 5 minutes... then it crashed my pc... it then took 2 hours to reinstall my windows and preferences, ever since that moment I oppose ICQ.

ICQ evil.
