Google PageRank System

How exactly does that work?
I'v read a couple of articles but im still puzzled.

lets take funfreepages.com as an example
They dont have an link exchange page, yet they have a pr of 5,
while others have mad link exchanges, yet their pr is around 3-4

Anyone knows some good long term ways to boost pr rating?

If Google determines a page is an FFA, it will ban it. It will also have a recursive effect on all sites listed in that FFA. Other than FFA pages, the more sites that link to yours, the higher your rankings will go in Google. It's also a good idea to have your site respidered about once per month.

did you hear about linkstoyou.com ?

Does google consider that as spam(ffa) or it is ok to join it?

Any tips/suggestions on some ways to make people link back to the site?

Offer buttons and ask "if you enoy this site, please link to us" ?
Would that be a good strategy?

- good, unique content/text
- exchange links with related sites which have a decent/good PR (but don't abuse link exchanges)

Lets take my poetry site for a minute

www.AllPoem.com

It has about 400+ unique user submitted poems, a contest, quotes, forum, blablabla, everything

Yet my biggest competitor is www.lovepoemsandquotes.com
It's a pretty basic site, simple html/design, few poems, pretty basic, yet its #1 on all google poetry searches

How would I go to beat them to the top position?

Search "link:www.lovepoemsandquotes.com" and "link:www.allpoem.com". Compare. The other site has 512 sites linking to it, yours has 10.

So, to boost your ranking you have to get other sites linking to you. I don't really know the best way to do this, but anything that makes it easier for other people to put a link to your site : like premade buttons with html, and stuff like that.

let me first analyse:
- they are on top position for the keyword "love poems", am I right?

I will go further on that:
- they already have an advantage by having the keywords "love" and "poems" in their domain name
- this advantage goes deeper/further: if another site refers to that site, it uses these keywords also as a link (~actual text of the links), and google keeps notice of this so the site gets even a higher PR for the keywords (which results in better listings, in this case)

giving higher boosts to domains with keywords in them?

because some www.flowers-poetry-love-computers-blabla.com sites would spam google?
they banned overoptimised sites, like the example you gave

however I think that a domain like www.lovepoetry.com is the best you can have for the search term "love poetry"
and that's what I mean

it will be hard to get a high position for "love poems"
I think you should try other keywords, and to help you here is a little tool to find (more specific) search terms

Thanks ALOT for that link :)

love poems gives 14,755.0 /day
my best keyword (romantic poetry) gives 543.0 /day

Huge difference, thus I want to enter the love poems competition :)

Any other methods besides link exchanging that can help me?

What about changes to the site that I could do that google would see and give higher ranking? I'm desperate, but at the same time i'm ready to do whatever It takes to be the best :biggrin2:

please keep in mind that these search keywords are from Wordtracker and/or Overture only, but this gives you an idea what are the most used search terms

google's top search terms will probably be the same for the keywords, but normally they should used more on a daily average

i have a trick to increase site rank:
design a page that includes your keywords and give it direct link to the content.

For Example:
user search: love poetry
your page:
Love Poetry - <link>Title 1</link>
Love Poetry - <link>Title 2</link>
Love Potry - <link>Title 3</link>
...
Love Poetry - <link>Title 10</link>

linked page:
Love Poetry - Title 1
.....blablabla...
(give 5-15% proportion for keywords)

By using this trick, i can put my site on top of every google search result that related to the given keywords (at least at page 1)

Another trick is aliasing your site (but i don't recommend this)

those are doorway pages no?
And google dosnt like those does it?
Or should I use those and dont care if google likes/dislikes those

And what do you mean by aliasing?

Remember that it isn't just about the number of links to your site, but also the quality of those links. If you're linked from 10 sites with a high Page Rank, you'll do better than being linked from 20 sites with a low page rank. I don;t know exactly how it works, but that matters.

Google must be getting better at catching those who spam for results, by adding keywords and links all over the place. Use keywords in context, have plenty of content, plenty of people through your site, and get them to vote using the google toolbar.

Now there's a lot more to it than that, but it's worth a shot. If you find out any more, we'd all be interested.

not really.
by using this method, i offer easy site navigation for user.
user will easily find the keywords which drive him / her to the real content.
instead of letting googlebot index pages which contain a very little keyword proportion, it's better to provide a page of significant keyword proportion, and it's not a problem at all !!
(this is not kinda an overoptimized page)

Could you show me an example page?
Or maybe theres some online tut on how to do it your way

To me that's still a doorway page, and is just a gimmick. If you want real visitors for your content, then the keywords should be all through the content. If they're not, then you need to write better, or the content isn't what's reflected by your keywords on other pages.

One way I can see this would work (and maybe what you're saying) is by having a page with links to all the srticles on your site. With each link is a description, full of keywords. Anyone searching will find the link page (more of a summary page) and will go straight through to the real content.

Anyone using this though, should be kicked for not having enough keywords in the actual content. Content IS the key. It doesn't matter how many keywords, visitors will only stay for real content, and you can't fool visitors with keywords.

Related to link exchange:

lets say a site linked to you. Will you gain the same pr boost if either of these is used:

<a href=http://www.domain.com>Title</a>
<a href=http://www.domain.com>Title - bla Description w/Keywords bla</a>
<a href=http://www.domain.com><img src="http://www.domain.com/bla.gif"></a>

does google give you the same pr boost or including keywords give you more boost or any of those 3 methods are identical and google dosnt care

I am not sure, but I think the 2nd method is the best one. The 3rd one is the worst I think, unless you add the "alt" tag.
In other words, I think Google take notes of keywords: the way a site links to yours.
