FFMPEG and Tomcat on VPS?

Is it possible to install FFMPEG and Tomcat on the same VPS? If so, what kind of VPS is needed? A friend of mine is interested but he knows next to nothing about vps.

FFMPEG will be used to convert and stream videos ranging from 40~120 minutes. Tomcat, well, he did not say and i dont know what that is! I know he needs cpanel.

So is it possible?
 
I did not get a vps yet for him yet. Thats why i am asking to make sure i get the right configuration for the friend who needs the vps. Which configuration do you suggest?

I would honestly just go with the cheapest package you can find, and if you need more then that upgrade the VPS. Upgrades should not require a reinstall of any sort, and should be nearly instant (depends on the provider).

As for install guides, google is your friend.
 
I'd go with Dark Soul's suggestion too .
By the way , you seem to suggest you don't have a vps .
What happened to your vps with cs squad ?

I have 2 vps's, one from cs-squad and another from hostlatch (both paid forward for 6 months), but this one is for a friend. He wanted to get a offshore vps for his "purposes".

Anyway, he wants to go with a offshore dedi now. Bugget is high enough for Core2Quad with 8GB ram, so i dont think he will have any trouble running them anymore. Only trouble is finding a offshore dedi that allows everything. If you have any links you want to share, feel free to PM me the company's url.

Also, which datacenter's are considered offshore who allow everything? I only know Frankfurt Germany.
 
Thanks for the info guys. Now just to find a offshore cheap dedi, which seems impossible to find a reliable host... Any ideas?

Yes you can install ffmpeg and Tomcat on a VPS, just watch for memory usage for Tomcat when you're running it.

ffmpeg is installed pretty easy, you will need to build (phpize the extension) to make a php module for ffmpeg-php to enable it on the server,
Are you running the thi son a cPanel server or on a custom built ?

Difficult to say, but I'm sure that will depend on what how huge or not huge your friend's projects are.
