I need the easiest free web server software to install. I have already tried apache but I have to install about 5 other programs. I have windows 98se and i dont care whether it is powerful or not because i am just going to use it to check out my php offline.

i never install web server in a package, but you may try sokkit (www.sokkit.net, formerly known as PHPTriad). it includes apache, php, and mysql. unfortunately, it's not totally free.

Abyss Web Server seems to be a popular choice for Windows users as of recent, though I am not sure why as I have never used it.
From what I hear it is easy to install and has a small footprint. :)

Though it might be old, www.foxserv.net

Apache + the niceties in 1 install.

Ill second this, very easy to install and use. PHP, Perl with Apache all in one.

I had problems trying to use FoxServ 3.1 (I believe), but 3.0 works perfectly

I used a bundle a friend sent me containing a modified foxserv 3.0. it worked out fine aside from some small scripting problems. thanks everyone.

Well I have no say, they kinda left me out of the decisions. I wanted it to go to a more user friendly version and fork another to have a developer friendly one. They didn't like that idea and so they dropped me. They didn't realize that I brought that application into the top in it's field. I knew all the code in and out, but hey why would they keep me.

MY rant.

Too bad you don't have XP pro, I have my own .net and local Windows Webserver running :p is so easy

Which is limited to 10 connected users ;)
I would never run an IIS server, full of security holes and bugs.

I love this web server software. Small file and you can make it work in less than 5 minutes. Apache is for more experienced user while Abyss less experienced users.
