Blender good?

I have been searching for 3D animation apps and so on.
Best I could find thats free is blender..
Im not sure wether I should use blender or buy Maya.
Can blender do what Maya does?
I dont want the most advanced animation of all time, I just want the ability to make short films

and what about 2D like Dora, without drawing cartoons, how could I do that?

I do not have any experience with blender, but I know maya is very good and I have a bit of experience with it. It is an incredibly diverse program and it can do some very complicated things. I doubt blender can do much of what maya an do seeing as Maya is a $3500 piece of software. Autodesk makes great programs, autocad, 3D studio max, et al. So I would go for maya if I were you.

Yeah man, Blender can do so amazing things, thats why I asked if Maya was really any better, because blender has done so GOOD WORK!!!
I dont know, sticking with toon boom for now, wanna learn blender along the road...
Problay work with it for 15 mins a day and just slowly advance in using it.
