Understanding web hosting is really simple. When we visit a company's website, we get to see a number of web pages that are stored in the web server that the company has procured from a vendor. Your web browser only facilitates you to get more information in the form of graphics and texts. So if you want to have a website serving your purpose, you need to have a server at your disposal. Only through this way you can have a support to your website that lets other users to have an access to all the information that you're willing to share with them.

Reputed web hosting providers are known to host hundreds of websites at any given time. To ensure this happens, the company needs to have quite a few servers, each of which needs to be connected to a high speed internet connection through a physical building, also referred to as "data centers". To ensure the safety of all these servers, the data centers need to be secured and have to be physically protected round-the-clock from fire, virus attacks, power failure, etc. Furthermore, these places need to have an efficient backup system in place should anything go wrong and also have an efficient disaster recovery plans in place.

Different types of web hosting plans are now available in the market. However, you need to choose the one that will help your business and that will allow it to grow with time. Each of these plans is unique and offer features that can vary from one service provider to another.

Web Hosting:

A web hоsting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server owned or leased for use by clients, as well as, providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for other servers located in their data center, called colocation, also known as Housing in Latin America or France.

The scope of web hosting services varies greatly. The most basic is web page and small-scale file hosting, where files can be uploaded via File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or a Web interface. The files are usually delivered to the Web "as is" or with minimal processing. Many Internet service providers (ISPs) offer this service free to subscribers. Individuals and organizations may also obtain Web page hosting from alternative service providers. Personal web site hosting is typically free, advertisement-sponsored, or inexpensive. Business web site hosting often has a higher expense.

Single page hosting is generally sufficient for personal web pages. A complex site calls for a more comprehensive package that provides database support and application development platforms (e.g. PHP, Java, Ruby on Rails, ColdFusion, and ASP). These facilities allow customers to write or install scripts for applications like forums and content management. Also, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is typically used for e-commerce.

The host may also provide an interface or control panel for managing the Web server and installing scripts, as well as, other modules and service applications like e-mail. Some hosts specialize in certain software or services (e.g. e-commerce),which are commonly used by larger companies that outsource network infrastructure.

Domain name registration:

A domain name is an identification string that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS).

Domain names are used in various networking contexts and application-specific naming and addressing purposes. In general, a domain name represents an Internet Protocol (IP) resource, such as a personal computer used to access the Internet, a server computer hosting a web site, or the web site itself or any other service communicated via the Internet.

Domain names are organized in subordinate levels (subdomains) of the DNS root domain, which is nameless. The first-level set of domain names are the top-level domains (TLDs), including the generic top-level domains (gTLDs), such as the prominent domains com, net and org, and the country code top-level domains (ccTLDs). Below these top-level domains in the DNS hierarchy are the second-level and third-level domain names that are typically open for reservation by end-users that wish to connect local area networks to the Internet, create other publicly accessible Internet resources or run web sites. The registration of these domain names is usually administered by domain name registrars who sell their services to the public.

The right to use a domain name is delegated by domain name registrars, which are accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the organization charged with overseeing the name and number systems of the Internet. In addition to ICANN, each top-level domain (TLD) is maintained and serviced technically by an administrative organization operating a registry. A registry is responsible for maintaining the database of names registered within the TLD it administers. The registry receives registration information from each domain name registrar authorized to assign names in the corresponding TLD and publishes the information using a special service, the whois protocol.

Registries and registrars usually charge an annual fee for the service of delegating a domain name to a user and providing a default set of name servers. Often, this transaction is termed a sale or lease of the domain name, and the registrant may sometimes be called an "owner", but no such legal relationship is actually associated with the transaction, only the exclusive right to use the domain name. More correctly, authorized users are known as "registrants" or as "domain holders".

ICANN publishes the complete list of TLD registries and domain name registrars. Registrant information associated with domain names is maintained in an online database accessible with the WHOIS service. For most of the 250 country code top-level domains (ccTLDs), the domain registries maintain the WHOIS (Registrant, name servers, expiration dates, etc.) information.

Some domain name registries, often called network information centers (NIC), also function as registrars to end-users. The major generic top-level domain registries, such as for the COM, NET, ORG, INFO domains and others, use a registry-registrar model consisting of hundreds of domain name registrars (see lists at ICANN or VeriSign). In this method of management, the registry only manages the domain name database and the relationship with the registrars. The registrants (users of a domain name) are customers of the registrar, in some cases through additional layers of resellers.

WEB HOSTING- The term Web hosting means that the internet hosting which enables the individual or the company to make their presence in the market by online procedure and hence, can be accessible by everyone through the internet. The Web Hosting service needs only two things i.e. the web space and the bandwidth that is to be hosted to become accessible by public.

DOMAIN REGISTRATION- Domain names are required for the customers whenever they need to host their website all around. The purpose of Domain Name is to identify the internet resources and such services are easier to put the domain names with some alphabetical letter rather than the symbols or number or digits.
