New way to use the net ?

Yes, right now, he can see Mr "notnamed" of FWS.net is posting about him.

Not "Frank Jones, 101 North Road, Cheshire, England, 20003. Whos a member of facebook, myspace, itunes and gaypornsite.com. Listens to anti establishment. Also enjoys Pizza, Bowling and Horror Films. Supports the Liberal party, and associates with Bob, Bill and Jimmy (who he also has detailed info on) via IM daily. Bought an illegal BB gun from Ebay and Drives a red Honda." has just made a post about him in FWS.net.

Your mistake is thinking the Government and Large Corporations are separate entities. This is an Illusion, they arent, they are one and the same. the sooner people start to accept this, the sooner we can do something about it.

That domain name is in my signature. Rupert Murdoch, send me a letter if you'd like. WHOIS has been around since the internet began. I use the WHOIS Guard thing that NameCheap provides for some of my domains for my friends and family, and for others, mostly because NameCheap gave me a bunch for free. But I've had many domains all over the net with my personal information in the WHOIS, and I receive pre-approved credit cards for my fake business all the time now. I tear them up, throw them away, and move on with my life.
The fact is, you have to log in to other sites THROUGH Facebook Connect for any of these other sites to get this access - it's EXACTLY the same as the Facebook Apps API, and the exact same level of information that's available. Don't use Facebook if you don't want to use Facebook, fnixws.

I don't have a problem with governments and large corporations being the same thing. I'm a Socialist. I use the argument that they're different in this discussion because, at the current time, in the US, they are not the same (see my library example - and libraries actually are part of the government, they're funded by tax dollars!) and you seem to have an issue with them being the same anyway. Let me guess, you've watched "Zeitgeist"?

Your siggy may link you to your domain, and therefore your ID, mine does too.
However it does not link us to our accounts with other services.

I dont actually have a problem with any of these sites as individuals. I just dont want them sharing information without my direct consent.
I dont want to be checking out some service at some stage, attempt to register and find im already registered with this company.
I dont want to make some comments on one site, and have my account closed or banned on every other site.
I wouldnt want some 3rd party getting their hands on all the info for malicious purposes, or even just to send me spam...

They are the same, especially in the US. Yes ive seen that Zeitgeist, but its got nothing to do with my views. Most of them come from my International Politics studies in "college". Not to mention other things that are going on online at the moment like implementation of ISP-Level Internet Content Filtering, The Google/Yahoo partnership, ISP Based blocking and routing of "bad" traffic and the Implementation of bandwidth Caps in the US.
I look at all this stuff together and see the internet getting more and more restricted.

I was using the WHOIS to refute that my comments here aren't just by "notnamed on FWS," they're by me, a real person, who can very, very easily be located with already existing tools.

Like I said, Facebook Connect is opt-in. Nobody uses OpenID because there's no benefit to not having a centralized login system (except for blog commenters, and that's just to reduce comment spam). Even if it is implemented, I highly, highly doubt that Amazon/Google/iTunes will use FBC as an exclusive login system - if nothing else, because there are still millions on the internet that don't use Facebook, and don't want to.

How are those government/corporation alliances? ISPs enact content filtering so they're not liable when the RIAA sues them for their users downloading illegal content and because, surprisingly, companies don't like to blatantly break laws. Additionally, the people that download illegal content through ISPs use huge amounts of bandwidth that cost the ISPs nothing. This has nothing to do with the ISPs COLLECTING information for the government, they're LIMITING information to the people. Not at all the same thing. What the hell does the Google/Yahoo partnership have to do with ANYTHING, and why does it matter since they broke it off last month?

Im not going to keep arguing with you. Its obvious you have one view, I have another and this is getting nowhere. If you dont mind giving up you Civil Liberties online, thats your problem.

My point is basically that these things start off looking like small harmless improvements to the system, but in the big picture, they have the potential to be used against us.

I'd hate my civil liberties online being taken away from me if I had any in the first place :) I would have no right to complain here if any of my posts in this thread were deleted or posted on some other website, because I am providing the information to Peo and FWS.net of my own volition. The same holds true for the information I post on Facebook. If you want to think that you somehow have a "right" to control what happens to information after you post it online or that it violates some essential "liberty" when you don't have said control, that is, as you say, your problem.
