FreeWebspace.net is a searchable index of free webspace providers with reviews and webmaster discussion forums.

History
The very first version of FreeWebspace.net was called 'The Free Homepage Guide'. It officially opened in early 1996 and was at that time hosted by a swedish free host, named BIP (no longer free). Back then we had about 25 links with short descriptions to free hosts on one single page. Very few of those free webspace providers are still around... Half a year later the site moved to Geocities, where it stayed for about a year until 'The Free Homepage Guide' got hosted on a swedish non free host (RIT).
On the 16th of April 1998 FreeWebspace.net was released and we celebrated by adding 9 new free hosts. It was at that time hosted by a paid host in the USA with the domain name freewebspace.net.
At the end of August 1998 all personal free webspace providers was moved into a database and made searchable. Late 1998 FreeWebspace.net moved to a dedicated server hosted by digitalNation, since the heavy traffic slowed down the site and we could no longer stay on a shared server. During summer 1999 visitors could for the first time review and rate free hosts. In October 2000 we opened up the new community forums.

Today
Today FreeWebspace.net is the most popular guide to free webhosting companies with more than one million page views per month. More than 11,500 people subscribe to the free webspace mailing list. As of November 2000, we now have 440 free web hosts listed.
