April 27

Added FortuneCity Sweden (thanks David) and FortuneCity Spain. Also added Bigblock (thanks Anti). More than 500 reviews have now been written by visitors to this site! Added about 50 new reviews today to the reviews page.
Thanks Peter Kirby for emailing me errors for some of the free hosts. Removed DJcafe (thanks everybody). Soon to be removed if they don't get back is Mysp, Myfp, Angen plus a few others.

Added Netscape Site Central (thanks Meni Livne). Removed Riftwar (not accepting new sites) and Wiktor (down for several days now, thanks Anti).

I've added some 40 new reviews written by visitors to FreeWebspace.net. As usual you can search reviews at the reviews page.

Added GameWar (game sites, thanks VgSniper). Some updates for the descriptions page, where I've described the contents for the tables. Also created a new improved contact page so we can receive more detailed and correct info about the new free hosts submitted.

April 17

New powerful search function: 'Power Search'. This is where you can search for ASP, Domain hosts, Pop Email, RealAudio, RealVideo and pre-installed cgi-scripts like guestbook, formmail and message board. You can also search by name of free web host. Some info for these features are still under construction. For instance not all free webhosts that offer Pop email have yet been listed as offering Pop email. If you would like to correct some errors, please send me a message from the contact page. Thanks.
I have not yet been able to solve the problem with searching the type of ads function, suggested by someone at the message board a few days ago. But I'm still working on it.
Other updates: Xoom specify 'unlimited' as 100 MB in their TOS, so I've changed it from 999 to 100 MB (thanks Peter Kirby and a few others). Heim.at now offer 6 MB (thanks Dreamwolf). Pure-tec have a pop-up ad (thanks Kevin) and Respublica have ads (thanks Tito).

Created a little info page about this site today, in case you have no idea what this site is all about... =) Here is your chance to read some behind the scenes facts about FreeWebspace.net - including rave reviews, info, a song and a short history lesson too...
More advanced search functions will be ready this weekend.

2 new free webspace providers. The very first finnish free webspace provider has now been added, Sunpoint (thanks Lari Lohikoski). Also added the new UK version of Fortunecity (thanks Merv Hart, Fortunecity UK). Fixed some info for Virtual Avenue (thanks Prasad Ullal).

Breaking News
Most parts of the new improved database are ready today. Changes so far:

Amount of webspace are searchable as "at least 1 MB", "at least 5 MB", etc (earlier it was in categories, like "1-5 MB" and "6-10 MB").

You can now search for hosts that offer subdomains and you can search by the kind of ads they put on your site.

More links in the tables to reviews written by users.

More info added to the upload column (FrontPage and email-upload), the ads column and the CGI-scripts column.

Editor info has been removed from the tables, but are still searchable on the advanced search page. This to make more space available in the tables for other info.

When you search you can now see how many total hosts you found (if more than max, you couldn't see this with the old version).

The links to the 'next page' has been moved below the table and changed to make it easier to navigate.

9 new free hosts added today: Nanohome (thanks Frank Nordberg), Subnet (danish, thanks Christian Jorgensen and trader), Phiberoptix (thanks Mike Steinhilter, Phiberoptix), WhatTown (thanks Eric Dunaway, WhatTown), SouthHosting (thanks Justin), Websiteresources (Michael, Websiteresources), NetworkQ (thanks Neil Skirrow, NetworkQ), 8op (thanks Brad) and Wiktor (danish MTX).

Removed 37 (!) former free webspace providers... Most of them are down, some of them are not accepting new sites and a few of them have become paid webhosting companies. I'm not going to list them all here, but if you are interested in these, I will put them in the removed services database shortly.

Other updates: Enjoy now offer 0.5 MB, Exit now offer 31 MB, German version of FortuneCity offer 20 MB, Freepage now offer 20 MB, HH Devel now only offer 5 MB free, Nettaxi offer 10 MB and Mujweb offer 11 MB.
Maybe you have also noticed some design changes today... Nothing special, I'm trying to focus on updating info and improving the database. More free webhosts and improvements for the advanced search page coming soon. Send feedback and suggestions for further improvements via the contact page. Thanks everybody for your help. Now I think I'm going to sleep until next weekend... LOL

About 20 more reviews added by users today. Looks like I will have the new database ready this weekend! More free webspace providers will be added with the new script. I'll try to remove all no longer available services too... I guess we'll be back to around 275 free webspace providers after I have checked them all.
